विष्णु सहस्रनाम भगवान विष्णु (अस्तित्व के पालनकर्ता) के रूप में चेतना के गुणों की प्रशंसा करने वाला एक बहुत गहरा और शक्तिशाली मंत्र है। भगवान के हजारों (सहस्र) नामों का जाप करके एक प्राणी भौतिक संसार के चंगुल से परे जा सकता है।
सबसे प्रसिद्ध संस्करण महाभारत की पुस्तक 13 से है।

भगवान विष्णु को कमल, कदम, चंपा, चमेली, केतकी, केवड़ा, वैजयंती, तुलसी के मंजरी और अशोक के फूल बेहद प्रिय हैं। भगवान विष्णु के पूजन के दौरान उन्हें विशेष रूप से तुलसी की मंजरी और पत्ते अर्पित किए जाते हैं। तुलसी की मंजरी और पत्ते चढ़ाने से भगवान शीघ्र प्रसन्न होते हैं।
भगवान श्री विष्णु सत्य, धर्म और न्याय के प्रतीक, ब्रह्माण्ड के महानायक और काल को संचालित करने वाले महाकाल भगवान श्री शिव की आराधना करते हैं ।
भगवान विष्णु की पूजा में अगस्त्य का फूल, माधवी और लोध के फूल का उपयोग नहीं किया जाता है। ये भगवान को पसंद नहीं है। इनके साथ ही विष्णु जी की मूर्ति पर अक्षत यानी चावल नहीं चढ़ाए जाते हैं।
स्नान करके किसी चटाई या लकड़ी के तख्ते पर बैठ जाएं। अपने सामने भगवान विष्णु की तस्वीर रखें और भगवान के दिव्य स्वरूप पर ध्यान केंद्रित करते हुए मंत्र का जाप शुरू करें। विष्णु मंत्र का जाप करने की आदर्श संख्या 108 का गुणक है। जप करते समय गिनती बनाए रखने के लिए तुलसी मनके की माला का उपयोग करें
भगवान विष्णु को प्रसन्न करने के लिए विधिवत पूजा भी अनिवार्य है. गुरुवार के दिन सूर्योदय से पहले उठकर स्नान करना चाहिए. साफ वस्त्रों को धारण करने के बाद एक चौकी पर स्वच्छ कपड़ा बिछाकर उस पर भगवान विष्णु की प्रतिमा स्थापित करें. विष्णु भगवान को पीला रंग बेहद प्रिय है, ऐसे में उन्हें पीले फूल चढ़ाना चाहिए.
